QOS 2024

Thanks for a great 2024 QOS in Boulder, Colorado at the University of Colorado Boulder!

We recorded all of the sessions and are preparing to share those videos to all QOS attendees. In an effort to keep the information as secure as possible, we intend on sending the link (to the video folder) out through the Aventri app that we used for the conference. Additionally, the videos in the folder are password-protected - the pw is the same for all the videos and we'll include that information in the Aventri app.
All participants received an email on Friday, September 13, 2024 with this information and the chance to opt out of having your recordings included:

We had previously asked you to indicate whether you would be OK with having your presentation recorded and we received one request to not record.  Before we release any of the recordings we want to double-check that you are OK with your presentation, from the conference, being available for attendees to review.  If not, please let us know by Monday, September 23rd, 5pm (MDT) so we can edit your part out. Please email QOS2024@colorado.edu to opt out.

We are making every effort to keep the videos secure and available only to conference attendees, but there is always a chance that the link will be disseminated surreptitiously and the videos will find their way to the outside world.  Please keep that in mind when deciding whether to allow us to proceed.

Please watch your emails the week of September 30th for further information and an update about posting the link through Aventri.

Thanks again,

Your QOS Planning Committee

The Quadrennial Ozone Symposium Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that QOS 2024 will take place from 15–19 July 2024 in Boulder, Colorado, hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder with a hybrid virtual option.

We are excited to follow in the footsteps of a wonderful QOS 2021 graciously hosted online by Yonsei University, Korea.

The 2024 Quadrennial Ozone Symposium is the 36th meeting of Ozone Scientists that began with the “Conference on Ozone and Atmospheric Absorption” in Paris in May 1929. The previous meetings have been highlighted with our growing understanding of processes affecting atmospheric ozone, its observations, photochemistry, impacts on air quality and human health, as well as the existential threat of ozone layer depletion by chlorofluorocarbons and halons. This 36th symposium will highlight keynote and invited presentations on wildfire aerosol impacts on ozone, new findings of the Hunga eruption impact on the stratosphere, the anniversaries of the Aura satellite and IAGOS observations, increased awareness of ozone and stratospheric impacts on surface climate, and new satellite data from the Korean GEMS satellite and the NASA TEMPO instrument. Plan to submit your abstract before 1 March 2024!

LOC committee and Scientific Program Committee

The committee felt that all candidates were very deserving of the award. Its members considered multiple categories in making a final decision. In the end, the decision  was to split the Farman award between two nominees.

Herman Smit
In recognition of his unique contribution to the calibration and quality
of the global ozone sonde record

Philippe Nedelec
In recognition of his contribution to produce high quality ozone record
in the troposphere and lowermost stratosphere using in situ
observations on-board commercial aircraft

For the Dobson award, committee selected high impact paper lead by

Luke Western
Paper "Global increase of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons from 2010 to 2020" was published in Nature Geoscience in 2023 .
See the link to the paper here:

Please share IO3C award news with your fellow scientists and across your organizations.
Announcement of awards will be added to the QOS2024 webpage.
Awards will be presented at the QOS2024 dinner.

Please read IO3C welcome message

For abstract submission go to Abstract Submission.

Please stay tuned for updates from the Organizing Committee on abstract submission, registration, venue, travel, and other information. We look forward to seeing everyone working on everything ozone science in Boulder and online in July 2024!
